119th ANG Cadet Squadron Change of Command

It is my pleasure to announce that 1st Lt Kyle Grove as agreed to take command of the 119th ANG Cadet Squadron effective 30 Jun 09.  Please help me in congratulating our newest victim, er umm, I mean commander!!  Kyle has been in CAP for two years now and has two cadets of his very own.  He is supported by his wife Beth and has really stepped into CAP with both feet.  He is a pilot with over 200 hours and has been working toward getting his form 5 and all the check rides to be an orientation ride pilot.  He currently works at the Fargo Jet Center.  I am excited to see the new directions he is taking the squadron and the new vision he has for the 40 cadets and 20 senior members who come each week.

I wanted to take the time to express my sincere appreciation for being allowed to command the squadron for the past two going on three years.  It is a challenge I would never give back.  I truly believe that running a squadron is like being a CEO for a small company.  You learn so much and to be honest you get so much, seeing your people succeed, the squadron grow and members excel.  I am so proud of the squadron and the wing as they responded to recent flooding and it is exciting to change over to a new commander on such a high note.  We truly have accomplished great things.

Please join us on Tuesday night, 30 Jun 09 for the official change of command ceremony.  The Red River Valley Rescue team will join us at 1900 with the change of command at 2000.  Treats provided by the wives of the commanders following the ceremony (thank you Jenn and Beth!!).  All activities will be at the base dining hall and the uniform of the day will be BDUs or appropriate civilian style uniforms.  No, that is not a typo- we are getting a little crazy here and trying something different because of our guest speakers!!  We felt that was easier than uniform drills!!

Thank you once again and I hope to see you there,

ERIK C. LUDLOW, Lt Col, CAP

Cadet Milestone Award

C/CMSGT Kurt Altenburg passed all requirements for the Billy Mitchell award and will be promoted to the rank of C/2d Lt.  This is a very important milestone for him and he worked very hard to get it since he joined CAP almost 3 years ago.  I am also excited to announce that he will ship off to Army Basic Training in June where he will get to wear E3 because of his efforts in CAP.  I also heard that Cadet Altenburg is working hard to earn his Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts as well.  Nice job on finishing up your requirements.  Cadet Altenburg will be officially promoted next Tuesday and the Mitchell ceremony will be held at the end of May.

C/SRA Alicia Grove passed all requirements for the Wright Bros award and was promoted to the rank of C/SSGT.  This is the first milestone award in CAP and is a cumulative award for the first three achievements in the cadet program.  Cadet Grove joined CAP last summer to assist a Senior Member with a visual impairment.  Her main motivation to join CAP was to help others in need.  She attend summer encampment and really started to enjoy the entire CAP cadet program.  Since then she has taken on leadership roles and is a mentor to many new female cadets who are joining CAP.  Nice job and congratulations!!  Her certificate will be presented at the end of May.
